Today we became the official Human Foosball champions and tied for First Place in the campsite inspections.  We watched a demonstration proving that Morse Code is faster than texting, and experienced chicken nugget day in the dining hall in the Camp James Ray tradition (you just had to be there).

The smell of rivalry is in the air as we continue . . . → Read More: Summer Camp 2010 – Day Three]]> If any of you watched the KXII news last night (Tuesday), you may have recognized some XV scouts sneaking up on a prairie dog during the Tracking merit badge class.

This morning after our flag ceremony and chores, we attended the chapel service.  “A scout is reverent.”

The smell of rivalry is in the air as we continue to do well but not yet first place in the campsite inspections.  Our camp is neat and tidy, and the boys are continuing to make camp gadgets and camp improvements.  We found out that we can get bonus points if the latrines smell pretty, so we are working on that!

Classes are going well, and it is great to walk around and see all of our boys involved and having a good time as you can see in the photos.  I just have to say that I am very impressed with this group of young men.  They are respectful, responsible, fun to be around and they get along together very well.  You would be so proud of your sons!  I know we are!

After lunch we won our human Foosball  game and participated in a camp-wide conservation project by helping to lay sod on the west side of the new dining hall.

After dinner the camp had an emergency evacuation drill, and then…

…and then… the DODGE BALL TOURNAMENT!!!!  Troop XV had four teams competing.  Three of the four advanced to the second round, and two teams advanced to the semi-finals.  We had one team compete in the championship game, but unfortunately we lost that match to Troop 507.  It was an intense event with highs and lows and emotions like a roller coaster.  We definitely have some great dodge ball players!

Day two was a full day! We started the day off with a flag ceremony, as usual, and our chores.  The boys have been doing a great job of keeping up with their duties and keeping the campsite nice and clean (if you don’t look in their tents).  Some of the classes were affected by the rain, but not too many. We were tied with 605 for 3rd place in the camp inspection this morning with a score of 99.  There may be a bit of competitiveness involved…

Classes continued.  Our troop experienced the agony of defeat in the soccer tournament this afternoon and the joy of victory this evening as Chase made us proud in the competition to see who could enter the dining hall first by being able to hold the one-handed, one-legged push up position the longest.

We had a troop shoot at the rifle range this evening, and some of the boys stayed to participate in the black powder demonstration.  Steven thought it was definitely worth the wait.  Then we came back to the campsite and had a lot of fun playing Speedminton and Ninja.  Of course, killing the rather large copperhead next to the latrines was pretty cool, too.
